You deserve help and support, and I want you to know that can happen even if your therapist comes from a different background than you. I hear a lot of people who want to match their therapist… on race, gender, sexual orientation. But research has found that it doesn’t guarantee better therapy. Good therapy is good therapy, and you should look for a therapist who helps you feel safe opening up, is non-judgemental and passionate.
